My Little Corner of Eden

{Eden: A delightful place; a paradise.} My real life paradise, sans sunshine and seashores. Just love, laughter, and yup, even the laundry.

Here we grow again!

Here we grow again! We welcomed our new little bundle of joy into the world on March 28, 2014 at 7:53 AM and weighing in at 7 lb 2 oz and 20.5 inches long. It’s amazing the difference that just another pound or inch makes in such a little baby. His sister was 8 lb 4 oz and 21.5 inches at birth and barely fit into a newborn outfit or diaper. This little guy is still swimming in some of them!

We were anticipating how his sister would react to her new brother. At barely 15 months old it was hard to know how much she was understanding of what was going on. I’d decided to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Prior to Baby Brother’s arrival I would talk to her often about “when baby brother comes”, or refer to him in my tummy, talk about him while folding his clothes and getting his little corner of our room setup, and just generally trying to include him in conversation and instill in her what a great big sister she was going to be and how she was going to be Momma’s Little Helper.

What happened was adorable & precious. My parents brought her to the hospital just a few hours after our little man was born. When she arrived he was in the nursery for his evaluation by the pediatrician. This worked out perfectly as I was able to greet her with my full attention when she arrived. She was super sweet and content to sit on momma’s bed and cuddle. Shortly after she arrived the nurse’s brought her brother back to the room. They placed him in my arms while she was still sitting with me. A magical moment with an arm around both of my babies. Little Bug gave a tiny smile, and we watched a myriad of emotions flash across her face from excitement to perhaps doubt or apprehension. She’d look from the baby to Momma and back. I got a little kiss (Love!). I patted my tummy and told her baby brother was here now and pointed to the little one in my arms. She leaned over to look at him a few more times, gave me a questioning glance, then suddenly leaned over to her little brother and gave him a sweet little kiss right on his tiny little mouth!!! All was well!

Little Bug has been such an amazing big sister these first few days. She runs to his bassinet in the morning to greet him , waving “Hi Baby!” and wanting to rock him (we’re working on being gentle though!). She’s brought diapers, blankets, baby doll bottles and clothes to him. She’s tried to share her toys, and even tore her last piece of fruit strip into two tiny pieces and tried to give it to him! I’m amazed at the patience she has shown waiting for Momma’s time and attention. She’s been content to come sit or stand at my feet and lean against me while I nursed or pumped We are so proud of her!

Looking forward to the adventures that await us as a new family of four! In the meantime, I’d love to hear your stories of introducing your children to each other for the first time! You can share your own memories by commenting below.

Until next time!

Welcome to My Little Corner of Eden!

Thanks for stopping by! I’m excited to start this little journey and hope you’ll enjoy it as well!

For some, paradise tropical beachis sunshine and white sandy beaches, the ocean stretching out as far as the eye can see. Perhaps enjoying the feel of a tropical breeze blowing across your sun-kissed tan while you sip on a delicious umbrella topped refreshment. No worries, no pressing deadlines. Just you, mother nature, and the sand between your toes. Ahh….now doesn’t that sound nice?

And boring. Ok, sure, this Momma could definitely use a tropical getaway and as I survey the disaster left behind by my 10-month old hurricane this morning I can certainly appreciate the peace and calm of a beach side afternoon. But let’s be honest, there is only so much excitement to be had in that sort of paradise.

So….what’s my paradise? It’s late nights  & early mornings, the toys & baby debris stretching out as far as the eye can see. It’s oatmeal flung on the walls and the dog begging to go out while attempting to get just one cup of barely lukewarm coffee down. Juggling housework & business emails. Just Momma, Papa, and our Little Bug…Oh, and did I mention another on the way? (And of course, we can’t forget the dog!)

My Little Corner of Eden is about everyday life. From sharing the sweet little moments hidden in the midst life’s chaos to helpful tips & hints from one Momma to another.
